Androscoggin river Maine, Fishing trips with, Maine Fly Guide
The Androscoggin river in Maine is the first of the three big Maine rivers for travelers coming in to the state. The Androscoggin river starts in New Hampshire at the outlet of Umbagog lake. The upper river is better habitat for trout although there is smallmouth bass through out the whole river. Below the first dam in Maine is where the world class smallmouth bass fishing begins. Below the dam in Livermore Maine is where the northern pike population is mixed in, the pike in the Androscoggin river can grow large many are 34”-40” with bigger ones not uncommon. The Northern pike population in the Androscoggin river is not abundant when fishing for them one quality pike a day is considered average mixed in with a bunch of smallmouth bass.
Maine’s big rivers hold some excellent smallmouth bass fishing our fish average 12-18” with smallmouth bass up to 22”. The 22” smallmouth bass are documented by the state ifw to be 20 years old!
