A day Fly fishing Rangeley Region with Maine Guide Brandon Bichrest

A day fly fishing with Maine guide, Brandon Bichrest in Rangeley region.

Booking a trip with Brandon begins with contacting Rangeley Regions Sports Shop, from there you will choose your date, I will contact you and plan what style trip is best for you. On any guided trip all flys, leaders, etc are supplied by Brandon, also rods are included unless you want to bring your own, Brandon uses Aleka rods, and depending on the trip we will bring 3 -4 rods #4 - #6. 9’-10’ with us that way at all times you the client can be fishing while I rig up the next rod over and over all day. On a typical day of fishing you could never tie on even half the amount of flys we are able to on a guided trip, because you would be re rigging all day and no fishing.

At Rangeley Region Sports Shop many style trips are available, the trip I would like to talk about is a Magaloway River float trip. These trips are for 1 or 2 clients, there is two different sections of the river that are great from a raft drift boat. The northern section requires miles of dirt rd travel and is a great Landlocked Salmon and Brook Trout, Fly Fishing Only location the put in and take out are the same location. The other section is a more technical 1.5 mile float trough narrow passages, shallow gravel bars, and deep clay holes. On either trip we meet at Rangeley Region Fly Shop or at the Magaloway river at the time we agree is best. We start the day with fishing from the boat and wade fishing mix. Brandon will bring four fly rods along on the boat each setup up for various strategies, extra rods makes fly changing on the move easy which can be important in many situation to fool that large brook trout we all seek! After several hours of fishing we will stop and for appetizers and steak or chicken lunch, your choice, while I cook you can fish or sit and relax enjoying the beautiful river/mountain scenery. Thermacel (Battery operated bug repellers) will be brought with us to help keep the bugs to a minimum. After enjoying lunch we will spend the rest of the day fishing slow surface winding river through marsh and meadows with mountain views. With potential for large fish at every cast, but this is not a trip to expect high number catch rate. But this is a trip where you could catch the biggest brook trout of your life! Ultimately this region hold the largest Native brook trout in the United States. At any cast they could hit from behind a rock in a eddy, or they could come from the alders and jump out of the water to attack your mouse fly or maybe it is large streamers that day, or maybe its dry flys, dry fly season here is epic. Sucker spawn, smelt run there is many seasons to fly fish this region and the Magaloway river. Season for this trip is April 1 - September 30. From July 15th -Aug 30 expect to catch and target smallmouth bass, if you are into helping cull the number of invasive smallmouth bass in the Rangeley Region this is a great opportunity, or if you are strictly catch and release we can do that as well. On this trip clients need to bring and medication they may need and inform Brandon before the trip, there own waders if they want to get out of the boat which is highly recommended, rain jacket, hat, glasses, water bottle, dress appropriately and that is it, Brandon will cover the rest. If you are traveling to Rangeley to Fly Fish make it Epic!

This trip and many other fishing trips are available through Rangeley Region Sports Shop, you can click the “Rangeley Trips” link on the home page or visit the web site www.Rangeleyflyshop.com or 207-864-5615, or contact Brandon and he will get it started.
