Fly Fish for Northern Pike in Maine on Sebago Lake
I have been fishing for pike for more than 20 years, the one thing i can say for sure is that Pike are much more challenging to consistently catch than most say, especially in the spring around the spawn, but this can also be some of the best time to catch a real trophy. Pike have been in sebago lake for 20+ years now, they were illegaly introduced it is unfortante and they threaten the Native Landlocked Salmon population, but they are here…. So we fish for them and kill the juveniles if you want to help curb the population (Do not consistently kill the large females) In the spring starting April 1st I will run guide trips around Sebago lake for northern pike in the shallow weed flats and tributaries, we can catch landlocked Salmon and Smallmouth Bass as well. We will move slow and look for pike, when we see one you will cast trying to land the fly in front of the face of the pike by 2 -3’ and retrieve your fly like a bait fish trying to get away from a predator.
